2. The One Hotel Angkor, Cambodia
After spending a day exploring the temples of Angkor Wat you might be glad of a little solitude at The One Hotel Angkor. The hotel is in Siem Reap’s Old Market, and has a rooftop terrace, Jacuzzi, personal chef, in-room spa treatments and use of a mobile phone during your stay. Guests also have the use of an iBook and iPod, two-person bath tub with underwater lighting and rainfall shower.
The One Hotel Angkor, The Passage, Siem Reap, Cambodia. Doubles start at US$250 (£132), including breakfast.
An Austin-Powers style hotel room with groovy lime-coloured exterior and bachelor pad furniture. It's located on the roof of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris and was designed by artists whose mission is to make guests feel like a part of the art. The hotel accepts bookings for one night at a time only, is in Paris until December 2008, and takes bookings two months ahead, so it takes luck and persistence to get a room. Inside there's a record collection to peruse, lounge, bedroom, gold-edged towels that you're encouraged to take home, and a free minibar.
Hotel Everland, Palais de Tokyo, 13 avenue du Président Wilson, F-75116 Paris. Costs £248 on Sundays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and £330 on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Closed Mondays.
4. The Single Room Hotel, Germany
The Single Room Hotel is located on what was known as the "death strip" along the former Berlin Wall. The hotel is easy to miss - it's hidden behind billboards, and it's basic - don't expect anything beyond two-star comfort. That said, it's central, cheap and unforgettable.
The Single Room Hotel, Kommandantenstr./Neue Grünstr, 10969 Berlin, Germany. Costs €29.95 (£24) per night

No, it's about one-room hotels. Subtle but big difference.
