A LAST-GASP try by Clint Greenshields gave Catalans Dragons a record seventh successive win in a pulsating match. They won 32-26 in torrential rain, but after being 14-0 down at the interval, Quins weathered the storm and even edged their noses in front 16-14 with half an hour remaining and had Quins captain Rob Purdham not missed three attempts at goal, it could have dampened the French side’s playoff dream.

Dragons opened the scoring after 11 minutes as Casey McGuire slipped through a Harlequins tackle on the line. Scrum-half Thomas Bosc added the extra two points before converting a penalty conceded by the frustrated visitors 10 minutes later.

Prop Alex Chan muscled over for a converted try after 23 minutes to make it 14-0 at the break, but Harlequins coach Brian McDermott’s half-time talk paid immediate dividends. Two minutes after the restart they had pulled a converted score back when Henry Paul’s grubber kick died in the water before Scott Hill dived on the ball. Four minutes later Bosc’s pass was intercepted by centre Tony Clubb, who raced 70 metres to touch down. Then Rikki Sheriffe and Quins had the momentum.

Then Greenshields, slipped in by Bosc, crashed over for his 14th Super League try after 58 minutes before Chad Randall hit back for the London side. Purdham again fluffed his kick to set up a knife-edge final 20 minutes with the score tied at 20-all.

Olivier Elima thought he had won it for the home side when he slid over with seven minutes remaining, but Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook dropped on a kick with three minutes left. Then Greenshields collected a skied kick from Bosc and went over.
