A rampant Warrington Wolves team marked Lee Briers' 300th game for the club by scoring 11 tries to overpower Wakefield Wildcats and move up to fifth place in the engage Super League at the Halliwell Jones Stadium yesterday.
However, it was Michael Monaghan, Briers' half-back partner, who excelled in an exemplary team effort that brought a hat-trick for the electrifying Kevin Penny - one try from halfway, another from his own line - and a brace apiece for Matt King and Chris Riley. Chris Hicks kicked eight goals.
Four tries, two to each team, in the first 12 minutes set the free-flowing tone of the match - by the interval a further five had been added - and although many came from enterprising attacking moves, both defences were at times culpable.
It was easily Warrington's biggest score of the season and Wakefield, despite a promising start, seemed to tire after their 30-14 midweek defeat at home to Catalans Dragons. Matt Petersen - the winger who arrived in Britain from Australia last week - marked his debut with a try.
