A teenager with the nickname "Mischeif" was stabbed to death by a gang of hooded youths on bikes just yards from his home.
Frederick Moody, 18, became the 21st teenager to be murdered in the capital this year after he suffered knife wounds to the stomach.
Neighbours from the £1 million terraced Victorian houses in Stockwell, southwest London, desperately tried to save the teenager after he staggered along the street before collapsing outside his home.
He had spent the day at a water fight at a fun fair in Holland Park with friends before returning to his house in Guildford Road.
His mother, Mary, who had been cooking him his evening meal, received a knock on her door at her top floor flat from a neighbour who discovered his body. She went outside and saw paramedics trying to resuscitate her son. She was today being comforted by friends.
Police were investigating the possibility that a street fight may have led to a row and then, later, the stabbing. A 16-year-old was arrested this morning in Brixton over the killing.
It is believed Frederick, known as Freddy, was attacked by a gang of youths who had been waiting near his house, near the homes of Edward Garnier QC, the Tory Shadow Minister for Justice, and Will Self.
A boy, who did not want to be named but knew Freddy said: “We reckon the fight started between gangs. There is violence all the time around here.”
Vida Oblitey, a neighbour who described Freddy as like a son to her, said she had been with his mother when he died in hospital last night. She said she had seen him in the area with a wet clothing after the water fight.
She said: “Freddy was a very handsome boy, a lovely boy, and whoever has done this has taken the only son away from a very happy family.”
Ms Oblitey, 52, added: “I had just come home from work and got a call from my kids, they said Freddy had been stabbed.
“After rushing back I phoned Freddy's mother, who I was with until 5am this morning. I had been at the hospital with her and we were there when it was confirmed he had died.'”

21, to the media its just another number, another statistic, people need to realise this is people lives that are being taken away! putting a number on Freddy is not going to solve the crimes is it! the police and the government think that they know it all, no scatch that they act like they do!

NT from London.. Deporting the 'problem' doesnt mean yu have fixed the problem, your simply moving it from one place to another... Are you implying that the problem is only caused by people who are not orginally from the UK?
Sally, London,
So sorry to hear of such a tragic event. Prayer heals all, and our's are coming to you from the USA.
Steven Scott, Akron, Ohio, USA
It s a tragedy what s going on in london ! 21 !!! young men were killed by knifes almost without a reason. It s safer you walk in bagdad than in london. It s war in the streets. But what can we do to stop the violence ? I don t know ......All my condolence for the
families of the innocent victims.
Klaus, Ahlen, Germany
I have a simple remedy for much, if not all of this. Any children of immigrants convicted of committing any serious crime should be deported to their parents' country of origin along with their immediate family - parents and siblings.
NT, London, UK
Bring in curfews and marshall law !!!!!
Ian Payne, walsall,
I think the country is in danger of demonising the youth of today especially those from ethnic minorities. Yes knife crime is an issue which needs to be tackled but the moral panic that has been created can only be encouraging youths to believe they need to carry knives on the streets to be safe.
Jess, London,
Doesn't the music industry share some of t ht blame? Many band whole image revolves around the glorification of violence in their music . They should stand up and condemn the results of their cynical exploitation of youth...or would that damage their cool and consequentially their bank balances.

When 'Evolution Rules OK' and God is 'dead' and multicuturalism is the new way - expect much more of the same.
Laws with no fear of accountability or punishment mean the UK is worse than a 3rd world nation. We reap what we have sown.
Chris Williams, Bridgend, UK
In New York this was a problem year ago, but they have taken measures to deal with it, there is no harm in taking methods from others to try and deal with the problem. This issue is not new, which is the sad part in fact its been coming for the past 15 years, lack of discipline at home, not being
Mychael Fergus, London, UK
We need compulsory national service... give these youths some responsibiltiy and focus and get them to do something worthwhile with their lives. There is far more to life and a far bigger world out there than the small gang world that exists on their council estates.
Lara, Streatham Hill, London, UK
able to smack your child which means a high proportion of unruly children never grow out of it. The worst thing is that in this country at present not all problems are large scale and damaging, but it is when a problem is in its infancy you deal with it. Task forces like trident are useless if you
Mychael Fergus, London, UK
I told people this ridiculous "stop knives, save lives" campaign will not work. It's like gun control,in this country, the only people who take any notice of these campaigns are those who wouldn't have taken up arms (illegally) anyway. They're nice ideas but also a waste of energy and money.
simon lomax, warrington, uk
if you are not trying to deal with the root of the problem, there are many ghetto's in London and unless more is done to help them and deal with their concerns more is on the way. When Afro-Caribbeans and Asians came to this country in the 1960's they were the most law abiding citizens
Mychael Fergus, London, UK
in the country so why not now? Its scary to think that the nature of behaviour could change so much and that society can let it go unnoticed, as now its not there is crime in the black community wow? But more "it's expected" its not what is said in society which is most damaging but what is not said
Mychael Fergus, London, UK
It's a sad time to say that a curfew for people might be the best option, maybe even to the extent local police should be brought in to patrol individual streets, even then would it be enough?
Ben, Isle of Man,
I agree with Peter Fieldman - I think it is forced 'multiculturalism' when it was brought in far too quickly for immigrants and foreigners to integrate properly into our society. They are now fighting against each other in their own little enclaves and black on black crime is escalating.
Annie , Bath, UK
How long will the public tolerate incompetence of home office and the police.
To be fair an open door imigration policy, encouragement of single parenting and a blind eye to uncontrolled yobbish behaviour, drinks and drugs has lead us here.
NO Tolerance to ANY crime is the only answer. BUT WHEN
AHMED SYED, COVENTRY,
the only reason the crime figures are so low is because Labour have redefined what constitutes a recordable crime...
pcooke, Gloucester,
Is it just me or is there a pattern here. Most of these stabbings seem fairly random or the result of scuffles or fights. My theory is that killing someone with a knife has become a rite of passage for urban youth. This could be part of the gang culture and the killers become "made" as in the mafia.
mike s, hong kong, china
Ift is not the knives that kill, it is the wielder of the knife. Knives should be taken away from the holders and they should be punished.
People that use the knives to injure, maime or murder should be locked up and put away for a long time or hung if they murder.
F. Alan Crump, Los Angeles, usa
It is very frustrating to see a country like England suffering from "knife stabbing" done by the young stars like us who should have been the torch bearer of future generation---but unfortunately, they are making things complicated with these ranges of heinous acts
no more rambling. do something.
Nasih Ul Wadud Alam(Paolo), Dhaka, Bangladesh
Funny how he's called an 18 year old boy...At 18 he's deemed to be a man...How many more times...bring back Hanging.!!
kirk, Rotherham, UK
Eleven years of lies and running down all aspects of law and order is now in front of our eyes. Oh how I laughed on hearing yesterday that crime has never been so low. No doubt the Home Secretary will soon take credit for there being no trebuchets on the streets since the Middle Ages.
Roger, Surrey.,
I have just left Dubai and Abu Dhabi after a year -there is no street crime or car theft or muggings. Its a very safe place to be.The authorities have a no tollerance rule and deport any offenders.
UK Home Secretary learn from this and enforce it for ayera nd then get the public to vote on it.
Dr.Keith Skelton , Colombo, Sri Lanka
I believe urban violence is linked to the multicultural society which instead of bringing people together through integration has led to the creation of ghettos where minority groups seek to perpetuate their culture and control their communities giving rise to conflict and rivalry over territory.
peter fieldman, paris, france
Bring back the death penalty.or allow the citizens of this country to protect themselfs ie carry guns as the police cant protect the ordinary guy in the street the laws must be changed to allow us to protect ourselfs
kev, london, uk
I concur with Graham (Thailand) - "Stop and search, and zero tolerance for anyone found carrying a knife...". Furthermore, let's save money for prisons by removing internet & TV facilities for violent criminals. Don't be fooled; upholding human rights DOES NOT mean we should mollycoddle criminals!
Sheila, Bangkok, Thailand
England has no moral fabric left in society. This has been building up for yrs and yrs with the decay of the family unit, lack of discipline on all fronts, family, schools, communities and the Police! With the PC brigade trying to please everyone they've actually succeeded in destroying everything!
Phil, Sydney, Australia
"Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime". And to think I voted for them! As society has deteriorated, we've been spun all sort of lies from dropping crime figures to problems with our own perception. The Labour party are truly despicable.
Matt Richards, London, UK
I was held at knifepoint at my cash point in January by a man with a kitchen knife. The police took ages to arrive on the scene due to attending other incidents. Still no one has been caught. The gangs are running the streets. :O))
Demos Kalliades, Northolt,
I have just signed on in the Army for 22 years.
Because I believe I will be a lot safer in Afghanistan or Iraq, than living and working in Londonistan.
Thomas Atkins, Londonistan,
Stop and search, and zero tolerance for anyone found carrying a knife - it's the only way. Prison sentences for all offenders and deportation and blacklisting in the case of offences by immigrants.
Graham, Pattaya, Thailand
But But according to the British Crime Survey violent crime is almost non-existent...
Niall, London,
Traumatizing. Police have little power in the UK contrary to the USA. Loud music after 11pm - they will knock on your door; ignoring police, ambulances, fire and barriers gets a stiff ticket; and a stiffer ticket if you argue. Drinking age in Calif. 21 and no open alcohol in the car or public area
lyn, santa barbara, calif, USA
It is an eye popper for my parents, who have always viewed the third world countries i frequent as dangerous, to see such a place the have held in high esteem become the new vision of street brutality.
christopher, flagstaff, US
These kids need to know that if they are caught with a knife they will be imprisoned with the only commute of sentence being the army or endless community service. We need the government to be tough and show leadership which is very sorely lacking.
Also prison should be prison not a hotel.
Dave, Manchester, UK
It is simply scary&beyond my understanding to think so many youths of my generation view the gift&quality of life in Western Society as such a disposable thing. There can be no true comprehension of murder, love&hate all present simultaneously in a normal balanced human being.
