Luton Hoo Hotel grand opening

The hotel in Bedfordshire has officially opened and in everything from furnishings to diversions is embracing its past

Pigeon droppings, graffiti and a creeping cold had turned the grand dining room in the Luton Hoo historic country manor - once host to the Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, the Queen and an art collection including works by Faberge - into something more like a disused squat.

Now the marble-lined dining room, the ballroom with original chandeliers, the ornate sweeping staircase are restored to their former glory.

The official opening of Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf & Spa in Bedfordshire this past weekend was a traditional celebration in the English style, with a brass band, a Spitfire making passes overhead and a proper afternoon tea.
