Wreck of the week: A burnt-out Gothic hall in Conwy, North Wales

What? A derelict, Grade I listed, Victorian Gothic hall designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott. A separate Grade II listed lodge and keeper's cottage have consent for renovation to provide two three-bedroom houses. There is also a range of outbuildings and 40 acres of overgrown gardens and woodlands. The hall footprint is about 10,000 sq ft.

Where? Near Llangernyw in Conwy, North Wales, 45 minutes' drive from Chester.

How much? £500,000.

How wrecked? The agent describes the hall as “dangerous”. It was a private home until the 1930s, then was used for institutional purposes until 1993 and ravaged by fire in 2004. Only the outer walls and clock tower remain.

How much will I have to spend? A minimum of £5 million to restore it to its Grade I status. The council will consider all planning applications but favour a return to residential use.
