The bargain: Nickel-plated bedstead
Feather & Black, manufacturer of lovely bedroom furniture and accessories, has launched an autumn collection in soothing palettes of vanilla, latte and mocha. To mark its fifth anniversary, there are savings of up to 50 per cent on many ranges. This king-size Henley bedstead, a mélange of old style and a modern nickel finish, is a steal at £479, down from £799 (01243 380600; featherandblack.com).
The object : Chip paperclip holder
Chip, £28, is quite the cutest of paperclip holders. Created by Rodrigo Torres, it’s his first piece for Italian überdesigner Alessi. Made from chrome, Chip’s internal magnets grasp the paperclips and in doing so distribute them in a fan-like plume of steely feathers. Despite its elegant dinkiness, Chip is exceptionally solid and can
be used as a stylish desktop paperweight, too (020-7518 9090; alessi.com).
Trade secret: Anthropologie
158 Regent Street, London W1 (anthropologie.co.uk)
Anthro-what? Anthropologie, the cult US brand and grown-up sibling to Urban Outfitters, has opened its first European store in London and, oh, what a joy it is. The eclectic feast of quirky, bohemian homewares and romantic fashion on offer has been lusted after by fans this side of the Pond since its doors first opened in Pennsylvania in 1992.
What’s the vibe? You’ll find Prairie-style quilts, lace-trimmed pillowslips, mismatched china, filigree bedsteads… enough in which to lose yourself for two or three hours, easily.
Best buy? This needlepoint pillow, £78, is a good place to start, followed swiftly by everything else.
Outside edge
Bronze finish outdoor wall light, £165, the Conran Shop (conranshop.co.uk).
