Ibiza pool house

The Danish fashion designer Bjorn Bruun decamps each summer with his wife, son and daughter to their holiday home in Ibiza. "Ibizan houses need to be social spaces," Bruun says. "We do a lot of barbecues, and we have a great outdoor sound system." The 12-metre pool was the main selling point when he bought the house three years ago, but the island has stringent ecological laws. "I wanted to heat it, but there is a limit on how much electricity you can use. There are also constant water shortages, so cacti feature heavily in the garden, as they’re the only things that grow here."

Colouring in

Few things are black and white in Karim Rashid’s world. The Egyptian-born, half-English, Canadian-raised, New York-based product and interior designer likes his colours to look artificial and amped up - particularly pink, which he wears virtually every day, and which features in much of his work. "My colour palette has been like this for 30 years," he says. "I wore pink suits as a teenager. It’s the only controversial colour. Today I’m even more radical, because people are more conservative. Pink makes people feel positive and uplifted." Rashid changes the wallpaper every three months: the current one is his own design.
