You might expect the Pringle apartment to be rented by a fashionista, with its curtains modelled on full-length silk evening gowns and its location on Cadogan Square, just minutes from Harvey Nichols, Harrods and the other fashion emporia of Knightsbridge. However, the price tag - £4,500 a week - may deter all but the very cream of the rag trade, and may be less daunting for a big hitter in the City.
The apartment takes its name from its interiors, which are based on a catwalk collection designed by Clare Waight Keller, the creative director of Pringle of Scotland. It is the latest collaboration between Pierre Brahm and a design company; until now his ventures have been with interior designers, such as Georgie Maw, rather than fashion designers.
Brahm learnt about property and design from his father, Henry, who built his property business in Belgravia and Chelsea, and whose clients included Marilyn Monroe and Steve McQueen. But there are plenty of fashion houses doing interiors - Armani, Missoni, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren all make furniture co-ordinated with their latest looks, and Brahm himself was influenced by the simple-chic of Ralph Lauren - so why choose Pringle? “Because of Clare Waight Keller's reinterpretation of the brand's heritage,” Brahm says, “and I like working with companies based in the British Isles.”
Since Waight Keller took the helm at Pringle in 2005, the label has re-established itself as a desirable, design-led brand. The Pringle clothes in fashion magazines are given plenty of body with their puffs and pleats. It's the same in the apartment's furnishings, with quilting and pleating adding structure to cushions and throws. The curtains in the apartment are derived from a dress, pictured right, shown on the Pringle catwalk in the autumn/winter collection for 2007-08. They are made of the same black and gold silk, and look just like the bubble-hemmed dress when drawn open - although almost four times as long. A low, chunky armchair is covered in black ponyskin, after a skirt in the collection, with the same buttons. These literal fashion-to-furnishing translations are pulled off cleverly - but most of the interior pieces take a more subtle cue. Sofas in dove and slate-grey velvet and reflective textures and cushions in deep peacock green mimic the catwalk collection's colour palette. The textures Brahm chooses are eminently touchable: “The fabrics Pringle use are so exquisite, so I thought, ‘Why shouldn't these be used in the home?'.”
This place needs a tenant with an eye for aesthetics and the inclination to show it off. It comes with Brahm's complete concierge service, so the lucky occupant can have a perfectly organised life, too. Being two minutes' walk from the label's shop on Sloane Street, Pringle obsessives can now live, wear and breathe its take on elegance without leaving London SW1.
