The new edition of Alastair Sawday’s British Bed & Breakfast for Garden Lovers (£14.99) is out this week, with added recognition for establishments that have made an extra effort to source food locally or organically and reduce their carbon footprint. That they make their own compost goes without saying.
Seedy Sunday
Just the thing for thrifty times: it’s Seedy Sunday at Hove town hall, today from 10am-4.30pm. Last year, more than 1,300 people took part in the event, swapping seeds and potatoes – some of which are no longer on the open market. First flowering
It is the first day of Snowdrop Fortnight at Pine Lodge Gardens, in St Austell, Cornwall, which include a woodland area and a winter plot full of colour. It’s open daily, 10am-5pm. Entry £6.50 (01726 73500, www.pine-lodge.co.uk).
