Tycanol A child’s tree house may have to be demolished because planners have said that it needed permission.

Chris Sharples, 46, decided to build his daughter Molly, 7, a house in the ash tree in his garden at Tycanol, Brynberian, where the family have lived for 11 years. He did not apply for permission because he did not think he needed it, though his home is in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Planners rejected a retrospective application. Mr Sharples is appealing to the Welsh Assembly, which will hear the case in April. “I thought it was a bit of fun,” he said. “You should be allowed to have a bit of fun in this day and age.”

A park spokesman said it was thought that the tree house would have a detrimental impact on the special character of the landscape and could set a precedent.
