Moving on: Jasper Conran

Jasper Conran, right, the designer and son of lifestyle guru Sir Terence, is building up his property portfolio. A spokesman for Conran Jr, 47, confirms that he has just bought Ven House, a Grade I-listed mansion in Somerset that had been languishing on the market for two years. He is believed to have paid a little less than the asking price, £8.5m. The nine-bed, six-reception pile comes with 34 acres, two cottages and a tennis court, and last sold for £8.8m in 2004. It’s a step up for Conran, who last year sold Flemings Hall, his delightful nine-bedroom, 13th-century home in Suffolk, for about £2m, and a sign of just how well he must be doing. Last year, he also bought Walpole House, on Chiswick Mall, west London. He paid £7.25m for the spectacular three-storey, 18th-century property, which has a a baroque banqueting hall and amazing views of the Thames.
