ANGEL OF DUBLIN
Bono is going green. The U2 singer has applied for planning consent to install an underground machine room to house an eco-friendly “engine” for the heating system of his mansion in Dalkey, a seaside suburb of Dublin — and, so far, there have been no objections. This is a rare occurrence for the rock star, 49, currently on tour, who has endured repeated run-ins with the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown planning authorities.
A TITANIC PROFIT
He may not have made quite as much money as he wanted, but Leonardo DiCaprio, below, has sold his Californian home for a profit. The Titanic star, 34, bought the two-bedroom pad in Malibu in 2007 for $6.35m, then put it back on the market for the whopping sum of £8.9m in November 2008. DiCaprio, below, has now sold the 2,374 sq ft villa — which has glass walls and a staircase down to the beach below — for almost $8m.
COMIC RELIEF
It’s been on the market for over a year, but Rik Mayall’s Notting Hill townhouse is finally under offer. The star of The Young Ones and The New Statesman originally put the six-bedroom, double-fronted Victorian property up for sale at the beginning of 2008; this March, after initially failing to shift it, he reduced the price by £200,000 to £4.75m. The comedian, 51, who bought the house in 1994 and lives there with his wife, Barbara, and their three children, intends to downsize.
