Typical property values in the north riding of Tipperary have plummeted by up to 20%, with estate agents largely putting the blame on the lack of credit and poor consumer confidence.

Though investors slacked off in the past 12 months, they still accounted for about 10% of completed purchases in the county.

Rents remained steady, however, even bucking the trend in some cases and rising by 5%.

New homes have been hardest hit in this part of Co Tipperary — especially two-bedroom apartments, which have fallen from €156,000 to €125,000.

This time last last year estate agents, developers and vendors of second-hand homes were looking forward to the opening of the M7 between Limerick and Nenagh, hoping that it would lift the market, but reports suggest there has been little benefit.
