Should I be flattered or put out? Obviously it is good news that when my colleagues considered appropriate people to be have-a-go heroes my name came up. On the other hand, it isn't particularly gratifying that they decided that the limit of my heroism was a Corby trouser press.
I love gadgets, although I have never hankered after a Corby trouser press. Well, all right, I have, but only a little bit. The reason? Actually, there are two. The first is that it has always seemed so banal, the sort of thing you find in your room in the Crossroads motel. The second is more of a technical objection. The point of the thing is to leave you without creases and heaven knows I could do with it. Sometimes my trousers look as if they are doubling as an accordion. But the Corby doesn't press the whole pair. It only presses up to the top of the leg. I'll give it this, though: the Corby trouser press is easy to assemble. I put it together in minutes with a Phillips screwdriver. Then all I had to do was plug it in. Which is where the trouble started. There is only one plug socket by my bed. I needed an extra adapter so that I could have both the Corby and my bedside lamp working at the same time. I did get round to it one night, and it worked.
What else do you want me to say? It's not expensive and it works. So it is better than the Government but not as good as an iPhone.
Heros' verdict: Three out of five stars
