This is the North West's most bling postcode as it includes Alderley Edge, the district best known today for its WAG and minor celebrity scene. After centuries of being a wild woodland with associations of magic and witchcraft, the area developed on the back of its mines.

The Edge itself is a 600ft-high red sandstone ridge protected by the National Trust. From the top you can see Manchester, Stockport and the Pennines; the village of Alderley Edge nestles at its feet.

Lush rolling hills interspersed with established copses mean residents enjoy idyllic pastoral surroundings while being only 14 miles from Manchester.

The small town's particular draw is its mix of new luxury and old charm - the High Street is lined with Porsche and Mercedes cars parked in front of the pretty old shopfronts. Nether Alderley is a smaller, quieter village south of the Edge, with a 15th-century mill and a notable church, the rectory to which was once home to Neil and Christine Hamilton.

Beech Bank is on swanky Beechfield Road, in Alderley Edge; it is for sale at £2.95million through Jackson-Stops & Staff (01625 540340) and was found on Globrix.com, the property search engine part-owned by News International, parent company of The Times.
