Our report on the recent sale of a new-build home in Hampstead, North London, for £35million brought an interesting response. The estate agents Robert Leech & Partners e-mailed us to say that they had a grand new-build baronial estate on the market for a staggering £70 million.
Updown Court, in Surrey, has been on the market for a while; their spokesman explains that the way to sell this kind of property is “not by putting them in glossy magazines but by placing them in front of the right buyer, of which there is only a handful in the world”.
So after features in most national property sections, the house has its own web page at www.propertyworld.com/_property_219617_Windlesham_Surrey. Of course, this is nothing to do with selling such an exclusive property.

You've bought your nice new-build flat in a spanking-new development, so the next thing is to meet the neighbours. In this modern age it is not as simple as knocking on doors and asking for a spoonful of sugar. No, the new way to meet the neighbours is via the internet. www.residentshq.com is a social networking service aiming to help residents in large developments by making it easy for them to meet each other and build local communities. You can view personal profiles of fellow residents or set up clubs. Residents' associations can use the site to post announcements or minutes of meetings and generally keep in touch with members.
It can't work in all dealings with neighbours, though: a furious e-mail complaining about the noise at 3am won't have a direct effect.
