All free. Print off voter registration forms for your new home and learn how to avoid receiving junk mail. Moreover, you can vote for which pages on the site you hate and love. Don’t move home without it.

Coming in a very close second is www.ukvillages.co.uk . Pop in your postcode and you’ll find loads of information on your area, including directories for estate agents, schools and pubs, as well as old photos and the most expensive – and the cheapest – streets. A highly commendable feature of the site is its “Community Kitty”: users can apply for grants to help their local groups, from knitting circles to playgroups. The database covers 31,000 cities, suburbs, towns and villages, and even gritty London locales such as Peckham are given the “village” treatment.
