Los Angeles Amy Winehouse will not perform at the Grammy awards this weekend after authorities denied her a visa to enter the US.
The singer, who cancelled her last US tour after a drug overdose, had made a personal appeal for a visa after being arrested and fined in Norway for cannabis possession. She is currently in rehabilitation.
Winehouse, 24, is nominated for six Grammy awards, including Album of the Year, and had been invited to sing at the ceremony, which takes place in Los Angeles on Sunday. The denial of entry to the US came after she was questioned, but not arrested, by police this week over a video that apparently showed her smoking crack cocaine.
The Outside Organisation, which represents Winehouse, said in a statement: “Unfortunately, her application for a visa has been rejected at this time by the American Embassy. Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago and, although disappointed with the decision, has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery.”

Drug abuse is a social problem and should be treated as such, not criminalised. Throwing people into prison for harming nobody else but themselves is akin to torture as far as I am concerned. It's time to legalise all drugs.
David Farrell, London,
Why, Pranab, should an exception be made for what you call an artist. "Celebrities" and artists are bound by the same laws and rules as the rest of us.
What other obnoxiuos activities would you like the authorities to overlook because a person is an "artist"?
She is a convicted drug user. The US does not welcome drug users nor those with criminal convictiction.
Chris, Ashford, Middlesex, UK
I strongly support the decision of the US Embassy. What she needs to focus on right now is sorting her drug addiction out., and not putting herself in such an overwhelming environment. Two weeks is not enough, it takes a longer time to overcome such strong addiction.
Good job Embassy Officials.
Lisa, Atlanta, USA
Just arrest her and sling the crackhead into jail, just like any other British citizen who took crack and Ecstasy would be treated here.
Artistic freedom? It's artistic freedom that resulted in this awful mess making enough money to buy all these drugs and the load of people round her propping her up all the time.
James , London, UK
Please give artistic freedom to artists of the world, which Amy also deserves. First it was a US singer denied visa in Europe and now same treatment to Amy.
When this tit-for-tat end, artists are human and prone to few overboard issues but there is a process to fix it & certainly not denying Amy US visa for Grammy attendance not a right thing. What if she wins heaps of awards, will authorities still deny her visa.
